I returned home that evening, to find Koldan in the foyer waiting. It was nearing two o’clock, and the entire house had been still, but I removed the stack of papers from my jacket pocket and handed it off to him, knowing that he was going to put it to good use. I couldn’t wait to have some of Mr. Kiselev’s associates in my office, shifting over to the winning side of all of this before he has the chance to do anything about it. I needed to remind him that I was the one in charge here. I held all of the power, and I was going to make sure that no one could ever challenge me again. His weapons collection would see to that for me, giving me the stature I so rightfully deserved. I wasn’t going to rest until I could look at it every day, knowing that I had won. I can feel it now, and I’m getting closer to obtaining it every moment I spend trying to unravel his entire empire. It won’t be long now before this is all over, and I can finally say that I destroyed the only other competition I had.

“Get these men in my office, one by one. If they refuse to come, find out where they’re hiding, and bring them to me. I want to have a little chat with each of them to make sure they understand that it’s me they should be sucking up to, not Mr. Kiselev. Is that clear?”

“Yes, sir. Right away. I will have the first one in your office come morning,” said Koldan, going over the first few names on the list.

“Thank you. Have a good night, Koldan.”

“You too as well, Mr. Volkov.”

And so it begins.
